Full-time (scheduled 72 hrs or more per pay period) Job Definition Job DescriptionSCOPE OF POSITION The RN PI Coordinator is responsible for monitoring and evaluating performance of the Trauma Program, working closely with trauma registry to ensure accurate, concurrent data collection and identification of performance improvement occurrences.
The Trauma PI Coordinator collaborates with the Trauma Medical Director, Trauma Program Manager, Trauma Registrars, Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator, Corporate Research, Ballad Quality Department and other disciplines to review the performance and safety of the Trauma Patient and program.
The Trauma PI Coordinator coordinates activities to evaluate issues, promote loop closure, and enhance clinical outcomes.
A.
Specific job responsibilities include:
1.
Serve as a resource to department leaders in quality assessment and improvement activities.
2.
Provide education to clinical and medical staff members regarding key measures of quality (CMS, accreditation, national and state initiatives, blueprint measures, etc).
3.
Designs special studies:
develop data collection tools (definitions, spreadsheets), conduct data collection, and ensure accuracy of data.
Works in conjunction with the Institutional Review Board, trauma department and Corporate Research on research publications, lectures and reports.
4.
As a member of the Trauma team, facilitates efficient, effective and quality care for the trauma patient population utilizing advanced education, mentoring and clinical skills.
Participates in clinical rounding and trauma team activations to identify and monitor patient outcomes, complications and deviations in established standards and policies.
Collaborates with the entire multidisciplinary team to monitor patient progress and outcomes.

Partners with all clinical support departments to ensure compliance to regulatory and accreditation standards.
6.
Reviews scorecards from facility departments to ensure compliance with monitoring and reporting requirements; prioritizes improvement efforts.
7.
Assists with development of annual operational plan for quality at facility and region/state.
8.
Establish and maintain healthy work relationship with key customers:
clinical staff, medical staff, managers, directors within the facility.
9.
Participates in facility department meetings and in facility leadership meetings as requested.
10.
Plans and coordinates with the trauma registry in compliance with current standards and regulations, of the State of Tennessee and American College of Surgeons, including but not limited to National Trauma Data Base, TQIP (Trauma Quality Improvement Program).
11.
Performs analysis and develops reports for performance improvement initiatives, PI committees, and research and injury prevention activities of the Trauma Program.
12.
Assist in development of Evidence Based Protocols, reports for the trauma PI and patient safety meetings, M&M and case reviews, in collaboration with the trauma program manager and medical director.
13.
Collects and analyzes data that supports trauma process improvement and research by identifying variations in patient care delivery and measuring clinical outcomes parameters and benchmarks.
Completes concurrent review of case sto identify quality, timeliness and systems issues related to care of the trauma patient.
Tracks and reports any identified quality of care issues including sentinel events, deaths, transfers and complications.

Functions as a mentor and resource for hospital staff and ancillary health care personnel involved in the care of the injured patient.
Participates in the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of educational programs for hospital staff and the local community.

Assists with identification and completion of grant applications to conduct and sustain for trauma research projects.
C.
Participation in hospital committees/councils as designated/needed.
D.
Job duties of this position may require access to protected patient information (PHI).
The team member will be accountable for appropriate use of the record and compliance with all confidentiality and security policy and procedures related to use, access, and disclosure of PHI.
E.
Assists in the development, maintenance, review and updating of departmental policies and procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Minimum three (3) years' experience in clinical practice setting in Emergency, Critical Care or Surgery field.
Successful management of priorities, multiple projects, and deadlines is required.
Computer and Internet skills and experience required--familiarity and comfort with MS Office products is essential for success in this position.
Clinical chart review and abstraction experience required.
Database data entry and/or management experience, statistical knowledge, quality improvement and patient safety knowledge and application experience preferred.
Ability to interact with all members of the facility team and administrative staff in a professional and courteous manner.
Bachelor's degree preferred, minimum of associate's degree in healthcare field.
RN licensure required.
